Place: Denmark, Copenhagen
Copenhagen Puppet Festival is organised by Kultur Vesterbro who among other things also are behind Puppet Junior (former Focus on Puppet Theatre).
Copenhagen Puppet Festival is aimed at adults only and works to promote international puppet theatre. The festival which is based on Vesterbro in Copenhagen is biannual held in all uneven years and is organised by Kultur Vesterbro. Puppet Junior on the other hand mainly presents Danish puppet theatre and is aimed at children families. The event which takes place in various parts of Copenhagen is held in all even years and is organised by Børnekulturstedet under Kultur Vesterbro.
Copenhagen Puppet Festival is an international event which aims to create a space where puppeteers, enthusiasts, organisers and newcomers in the world of puppetry can meet and share its many joys. A space where professionals can inspire new talents, where gifted young puppeteers can try out their material on a live audience and where the public can either have a small taste or try the entire puppetry menu.
Copenhagen Puppet Festivals primary aim is to create awareness of the many possibilities puppetry holds, by continuously inviting groups and experts from home and abroad to Copenhagen. We wish to establish a new cultural offer for the adult audience in Copenhagen and give a nuanced insight into the world of puppetry a thought provoking and magical world which stimulates the senses and fantasy in a new and different way. We collaborate with numerous key persons and organisations from the international puppet scene allowing us to present a versatile and topical program.
Kultur Vesterbro and Børnekulturstedet have formerly in collaboration and seperately organised puppet events. Among other things they were behind Punch and Judy and the brats in 2004; The Special Edition of Stuffed Puppets RE:FRANKENSTEIN in 2005; Copenhagen Puppet Festival 2007 and Focus On Puppet Theater 2006 and 2008. For further information see: Former events.
The first Copenhagen Puppet Festival in 2007 got wide coverage in the media in and outside Denmark. With the festival this year we hope to put adult puppet theatre on the cultural agenda.
ABOUF
"Copenhagen Puppet Festival seems to be brave and full of great ideas for changing a traditional festival formula. A trend which I think that my school will have to follow in future."
Katarzyna Kostenko, International Relations Coordinator, The Ludwik Solski State Drama School in Krakow, Wroclaw Branch
"They say puppets are also for adults at Copenhagen Puppet Festival. I should say so! You have to be fairly adult to take it"
Dagbladet Information
"Its so rare to see that a puppet festival is courageous enough to separate adult programs from children programs
bravo!"
Massimo Schuster, French Puppeteer
"As guest speaker I had the pleasure of visiting the Copenhagen Puppet Festival in 2007. A little gem set in the heart of Copenhagen
